Dexon Code Review: dApp Blockchain Platform

Dexon Code Review – sounds like an oil company, but no! Surprise, it’s the ‘premier blockchain platform for developing dApps’. Might be news to a few other platforms, but sure, let’s go with that. By the way, Dapps? dApps? DApps? D’apps? (I made the last one up, but again, why not?) I think we should all just agree to call them supercallifragilisticdistributedapplications and be done with it. So what’s the pitch: “DApps mass adoption is made possible with DEXON’s infinitely scalable, low-latency, and energy-efficient blocklattice technology.” Infinitely scalable. Why are people…

COTI Code Review: Currency Of The Internet DAG

Taking a look at COTI with my code review today. White label payments solution, high throughput claims, custom stable coins, wants to revolutionize the way digital currencies are perceived by merchants and buyers using their Trustchain consensus. So basically doing the whole “We can out-PayPal PayPal and everyone else too” routine. Interesting though, how they want to do it, and I had to delve pretty deep to get into their solution and how it actually works. I will tell you, since this is a longer code review, I do like…

Pchain Code Review: Andre Cronje Revisits The Project

In a comprehensive rebuttal to Andre Cronje’s Pchain Code Review earlier this week, Pchain released a statement explaining what they believed he had missed. Since it’s our intent to be completely fair to both the business and our readers, we are publishing that rebuttal here. Following these comments, Andre went back into the repos discussed by the Pchain team, and took another very careful look at the code. His findings are below the image. It isn’t easy to read a critical review: and Pchain has responded constructively to Andre’s initial…

Pchain Code Review: Multichain System On EVM

You all wanted this Pchain code review, you know who you are. When Pchain? When Pchain? Well, now Pchain. Not sure if you’ll love it but I’m not here to butter anyone’s butt. So what is Pchain – “The first native multichain system that supports EVM in the world. Making large scale blockchain applications possible.” Okay, Ethereum Virtual Machine for the uninitiated… but count me as one of them, because what does native multichain mean? “One main chain and multiple derived chains. “ “Consensus with hierarchical sharding pipeline” What? “POS based…

Coda Protocol Code Review: Ultra Compressed Blockchain

Coda Protocol code review, wondering if their claims make any sense. Over here, look! The Ethereum blockchain, currently 667GB! And over here, Coda… which claims that a pinch of recursive composition of zk-SNARKs and some clever ideas can reduce the size of their chain into a “tiny snapshot”. Mass adoption anyone? So, anyway. Coda is a new cryptocurrency with a constant size blockchain, improving scaling while maintaining decentralization and security. No need to store the entire blockchain for verification. Instant mobile syncing (or somewhat instant, let’s be serious for a…

Chainspace Code Review: Sharded Smart Contracts

Chainspace is a platform for creating a distributed web of blockchains that – like many before it – seeks to create the Ultimate Answer To Life, The Universe, And Everything. (Or, as we refer to it in crypto, Scalability, Speed, and Security.) In my code review I point out that it might even work. I have to admit, I’m excited. I loved their paper, I love their published work, I really admire the team. I’m very excited that I got my hands on the code. “Sharded smart contracts, decentralized infrastructure…

MetaHash Code Review: Blockchain 4.0 Cryptocurrency

This MetaHash code review wouldn’t be complete without noting that marketers can do and say what they want, but I still don’t know what Blockchain 4.0 is or when it replaced Blockchain 3.0. I guess incremental gains in TPS is it. Anyway, here we are, “the fastest and most secure blockchain” which (if “pick two from speed, security, and scalability” is correct) means that it can’t scale. But apparently it can, and all the while be more decentralized than the competition. Lots of big claims. Also, I hate a website…

QuarkChain Code Review: High Capacity P2P Blockchain

I’ve previously written about Quarkchain. What I saw back then was good. I still have my reservations on cross-shard transactions and the implication on finality, and I still dislike the horizontal scalability claim. But in the QuarkChain code review I definitely see some things that I like, too. Testnet is up and running, hitting 10,000+ peak TPS. Curious what this is per shard, since I assume the value is cumulative. Overall TPS can be a bit of a confusing metric since each shards TPS should be measured individually. And does…

IRIS Network ICO Review And Token Analysis

IRIS Network ICO Overview The IRIS Network ICO and IRIS token sale are raising funds toward an inter-chain service infrastructure and protocol. IRIS Network lays the groundwork for a network of distributed ledgers capable of integrating disparate business services, including public and proprietary chains in addition to enterprise legacy systems. IRIS Network is itself an instance of Cosmos, and will expand the interoperable ecosystem as a regional hub. IRIS Network ICO Value Proposition The IRIS network aims to deploy the same topology as Cosmos while adding a set of complementary…

Hypernet ICO Review and HYPR Token Analysis

Hypernet ICO Overview The Hypernet ICO and HYPR token sale are raising funds for a decentralized, distributed parallel computing network. Hypernet harnesses the idle computing resources of network participants to meet demand for processing power through a novel programming model and marketplace. The core infrastructure includes a blockchain-based task scheduler and Distributed Average Consensus (DAC) API suite, designed to break the constraints posed by device availability and bandwidth fluctuation that limit the potential of other approaches to distributed computing. Hypernet ICO Value Proposition Most distributed computing systems require raw data…
